For as long as I can remember, I have always heard the phrase, “Let Go and Let God”.
Whenever we hear that, It gives us a warm and fuzzy feeling and it sounds really nice, but to be honest, it often seems to only come to mind when life gets too stressful or when things seem like they are just a little out of the reach of our own control.
But what does the phrase actually mean?
And More importantly, why do we oftentimes have such a hard time truly letting go of things in our life and trusting the details and the outcome to Jesus?
The simple answer is that we are SELFISH and of course We think that we know what’s best for our lives.
We are human beings and all humans have a nature that leads us to think that we are in total control of our life, and what happens today, tomorrow and in the future is totally up to us.
It’s our life and we should get to determine what we do, what’s best for us and what we spend our life doing. Seems reasonable right?
Wrong!!!!
As Christians, we know that isn’t the case. We are not in control of our lives and as much as we may try to fool ourselves, God has a plan for our life and ultimately HIS plan is what is best for our life.
No matter what we try to do, trusting God and wanting HIS will to play out in every detail and in every area of our life is always the best choice we can possibly make.
Is this easy to do?
Are you kidding me? Absolutely not!!!!
Most people struggle with this their whole life and go nearly their entire life thinking that they are the one with the power to pilot the Millennium Falcon of their lives (throwing in a Star Wars reference there) but this is not what God intends or has in mind for our life.
If you are not a Christian then obviously this concept seems pretty foreign to you. The thought of someone else, a person that you don’t even believe in, being in control of your life and wanting you to give up control to them seems pretty ludicrous.
But for Christians, the phrase means letting go of our desires and our plans for our life and living in total surrender.
It is doing so when we may not feel like it or truly have any idea what direction our life might be headed in.
It is believing that no matter how much we think we know about what is best for our life, that the person that truly knows what’s best for our life is God!!!
It’s giving up the control of our life when things are going great and daily asking God to continue to show you His plan and show you what path He wants you to take and who He wants you to be!!
It’s knowing that even if things don’t turn out how we think they should have or like we want them to that our life still has meaning and purpose and that purpose is being patient and waiting on Gods will and plan to manifest itself in our life.
It is in doing so that we truly “let go” of things and “let God” have control of our life and our future.
And doesn’t it make sense to give total surrender to the person who gave you life and the person whom every good and positive thing in your life comes from??
Ethan, I declare your writing is so good. I can feel God leading you to help yourself and others. God has given you a gift. I love you.

Two of my favorites that I whisper to myself more often than not.
Psalm 138:8
The LORD will work out his plans for my life.
Psalm 62:5
Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.
