No matter how hard we might try, or how much we might like to be, we are never going to be perfect.
If we are being honest, Adam and Eve already ruined that pipe dream for us years ago in the Garden of Eden and quite frankly we have been paying the cost ever since.
There is only one person that has ever been perfect and achieved that lofty status and that person is Jesus Christ.
Want to hear something encouraging? Jesus does not expect you to be perfect and He isn’t disappointed when you aren’t.
God knew that we were all broken and prone to sin and imperfection before we were even born.
To be honest, I even hate to use the word “perfect” because it is such an unattainable goal to work towards.
We hear so often about wanting to have a “perfect wife or husband”, “perfect vacation”, “perfect house” or “perfect kids”
Newsflash: None of those exist!!!!
As Followers of Christ we strive to live like perfect Christians and how God wants us to live all the time, but let me stop you right there.
You know that you aren’t going to live a perfect life and more importantly God does as well!!!
And the sooner we realize that and stop expecting perfection the better our life will be and the better our walk with the Lord will be as well.
So often in life when we do mess up, or do something that we know that we shouldn’t we have a tendency to feel guilt and disappointment in ourselves.
That is a sign of conviction and the Holy Spirit inside of us telling us that what we did was wrong.
You can’t let stepping out of Gods will once or twice keep you off of the path that He has set you on because guess what?
This isn’t going to be the only time in life that you sin or mess up or do something that you wish you could take back.
Those times are going to be countless over the course of your life.
The eye opening fact is that God knew all of your sin and what you were going to do before you even took your first breath and He still chose to die on the cross and forgive you of that sin.
So there is nothing that you can do right or wrong that isn’t in the presence of God. There is nothing that you can not do that God didn’t know already that you were going to do.
He forgave you anyway.
There is nothing that we can do to deserve his forgiveness and there is nothing that we can do earn it.
It is called grace and He wants to extend that grace and love and mercy to everyone that is willing to accept it and receive Jesus in their heart.
As I stated in the title, if we strive for perfection and don’t achieve it, which we won’t, it gets in the way of seeing the progress that you are making in your life and in your walk with the Lord.
Let’s say that you have a wonderful day and right at the end of the night you mess up and do something that you should have not done.
Does that take away all the good that was done during the day up until that point?
Absolutely not.
That is what I am referring to. You can’t let messing up in a short period of time cancel out what you have done or the growth that you have made elsewhere.
That isn’t what God wants you to do.
If every time in life that we messed up we were expected to hit the reset button and feel guilt and shame how would be truly be able to grow.
God is a loving God and a forgiving God and He never gives up on us. So don’t give up on yourself either.
There is nothing that we can ever do to separate us from the Love of God. And there is no mistake that we can make, no matter how many times that can make us not the recipient of His grace.
That’s what the cross was for. Our mistakes can’t take away the ultimate sacrifice was given to me and to you!!!
