Eight words.
Eight words that upon first glance seem fairly easy to grasp and understand.
Eight words that seem pretty straightforward and are likely so familiar because we have heard them time and time again throughout our lifetime.
Why is it however, that when those words are read together in Psalm 46: 10 that one part seems a little bit easier to incorporate in our life than the other.
“Know that I am God”. That seems easy enough right?
Whether you are a Christian or even if you aren’t, it’s pretty easy to admit that there is a God, even if you don’t have an intimate and personal relationship with Him.
Whether you choose to believe in Him or not, you can’t argue the fact that you see signs of Him all around you.
The “Be Still” part are the two words that seem pretty difficult to wrap our head around.
Especially in 2021 right?
Who has time to be still? And exactly what does that mean?
In such a fast paced world that is go, go, go to be honest, it seems like the only time that we are able to be still is at night when we are done with our crazy and chaotic day and the last thing on our mind is thinking about God and the full extent of His power and glory.
But that is what God wants!!
And that is what We NEED!!!
And being still is more than just the physical act of not moving.
It is being still in what we are trying to accomplish and what we are trying to do in our daily lives.
It is being patient and waiting on the Holy Spirit to guide us and direct and place us on the path that God intends for us to be on.
It is Being still and waiting on His will to play out in our lives instead of our own.
It is being still and realizing that despite what difficulties and struggles might be going on in our life that God will never leave us and that with struggles and pain come perseverance and there is a lesson to be learned in all things we go through if we listen and have the right response.
As humans, if we are constantly going and moving and living life at such a fast pace, how can we ever truly enjoy the blessings that God has given us.
We get caught up in work and family and bills and errands and things we need to do, but haven’t quite had the time to do.
And where does that leave God In our daily lives?
Near the very back if we are being honest and our relationship with God, which is a relationship that He desires more than anything becomes nothing more than an afterthought.
So often today we hear the phrase thrown around about being “unplugged” from social media.
I was able to do that last week on my trip to Disney and I can’t tell you the effect that it had on me. I was able to just think and reflect and have fun but also talk and listen to God all throughout my day.
You might be saying, Ethan, are you trying to tell me that you talked and listened to God while you were at Disney?
Absolutely!!!!
I talk to God and listen to God all throughout my day!!!
I hear the Holy Spirit on my way to work, while I walk in the evenings and in so many other things that I do.
But the key is that you have to be disciplined to do it. You have to be willing to listen. You have to be willing to “be still”.
And trust me there are days when I get too busy and wrapped up in myself and my own agenda and all the things that are going on that I don’t do as I should.
But let me be the one to tell you, when that happens you better believe I feel a tug from the Holy Spirit telling me to slow down and realize that this life isn’t mine but rather HIS!!!!
Each and everyday I challenge you to ask God what He wants you to do in your life that day. What He wants to accomplish through you.
Take the time to listen and take the time to talk to Him and realize just how incredible He is and just how blessed you truly are.
I guarantee you that if you take the time to listen and be still you will hear what He has to say and your relationship with Him will grow exponentially.
I heard something a few months ago and it has really stuck with me. “In life you can never go wrong waiting on the Lord”
When things get crazy and hectic in our daily life just listen to the Lord, give them to the Lord and just “Be still”
I guarantee you that you will find a peace within your soul that only He can provide.
Your strength will be Renewed as only the Lord can do!!!
And the more and more that you are still and listen to the Lord and what He wants for your life you will see just how vital and critical listening to Him is your daily walk with HIM.
And when you know that and see that “He is God” you will see that your relationship with Him is the most important relationship you will have in your life… EVER.
And you will realize that there is nothing too stressful, too crazy or too difficult that you will encounter in life because you never have to do it alone. Jesus is always with you!!!
That my friend is worth slowing down and worth being still to realize. Because if you don’t you are missing life’s biggest blessing which is an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.
